Justice and Policing

As a former administrator for the Chapel Hill police department, I have experienced the importance of solidarity and unity as we attempt to create safer communities and combat violence in our neighborhoods. I’ve observed firsthand the sacrifices our officers make day-in and day-out, and I’m proud to collaborate with community-based organizations and law enforcement to create a safe and sustainable foundation to improve community relationships and curb violence within our communities. At the same time, it is clear that reforms are long overdue in our criminal and civil justice systems. That is why I am proud to support legislation like the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, Ending Qualified Immunity Act, Justice for Incarcerated Moms Act, and programs to help support low-income individuals seeking access to legal services.
